i'm in excited mode coz i wrote a song tonight. spent the last few hours just playing it over, tweaking it here and there. i'm going to go back to it after this, although i'm a bit sleepy. i'll pick up the geetar and see if i can remember it. i'll end up sitting and playing it till the morning, i can just see how it usually pans out once i start something creative. i once made a video (the introductory one on the video page here) that i sat up for about fifty hours straight putting together. not that you'd know to look at it! i just become obsessed.
in other news i damaged my foot. i now have a sore foot. how ironic. that'll teach me. i'm walking with a bit of a limp. not pleasant! i was walking around a bit last night in glasgow seeing loads of bands at an event called the sauchiehall crawl. it was good fun. i was craving live music. seeing bands definitely helps motivate me to write and practise. there's some amazing musical talent on my doorstep, there really is.
so, i've been busy lately. i've not been updating this blog (which also appears on the myspace page) as regularly of late i realise. i'll be getting some footage of the tokyo show soon so will definitely be putting some songs up on youtube. i have such little usable full band videos of the new album songs that it'll be good to have those available. in tokyo i played for half the set on my own and for the other set i was joined by six other japanese musicians who were just brilliant. all will be revealed when i get the videos and put them up. i'll write about those who played too.
i'm looking forward to playing a show in glasgow with my friend sebastian aka cineplexx on june 25th. there's a poster he's designed on the messageboard. also just waiting for some other gigs here and abroad to be confirmed.
here's one brief story from my travels to japan. i was staying in a hotel in osaka, one with an onsen (hot spring) and also sauna etc. it was open almost all the time, except from 2am till 5am. i woke up very early one morning probably slightly drunk so i wandered down in my robe and slippers to seek comfort and solace in the sauna. i approached the desk and i duly gave the elderly looking japanese lady my room key and she handed me a locker key with a smile and a hand direction signalling the entrance i was to go in. males and females are separated as nudity is expected, although a modest cloth is provided for sitting in the sauna. anyway, i followed the path of her gesticulated hand and wandered into a room then through to the lockers. my key wouldn't work and i wandered deeper into the room only to be confronted by naked women. after running out i tried to explain to the elderly japanese lady that i was in fact a bloke. i pointed to my hair, gesturing that maybe this was what had confused her but she wasn't getting it. i wasn't quite at the stage of opening my gown to reveal the naked truth but i came pretty close. exposing just a little chest hair to her seemed to be all i needed.
