i was thinking tonight i should put up a live track of one of my new songs. i'm bursting to let people hear new songs. i have some good recordings of recent japanese acoustic shows. the songs on my debut album seem like so long ago. i looked at my song list and i've got a lot of songs that i've accumulated over the last few years. i hope more of them will one day see the light of day. i've got about 15 i'll have recorded for the next album and i'm always thinking about the 10 or 12 that'll be released. i want them to be heard! but, i must be patient and i must make sure i'm 100% happy with what i let people hear. they will see day light, just not RIGHT now. i admit to being tempted to putting up new songs i've done live, but again, not quite yet.
oh, i've finished the lyrics to my new song. yipee. it's going to be called either "footprints" or "footprints blow away". i'm not sure which. i managed to express what it was i wanted to say. like my other song "amorino", this one has a falsetto part that i sing. it's high. very high! could be a tough one to sing live, but i'm going to try and record it and see how it sounds in the studio. i'm going back there a week on monday. i cannot wait. it's been too long. i'm like a caged lion but with curly hair and a love of macaroni.
i'll go back to my cage now armed with some pistachio nuts and tetley tea. i think i'm doing the right thing. patience, patience, patience dear boy. the album is nearly done and i want to make sure it's exactly right.

i really need to shave....
anyway, apart from growing lots of strange curly facial hair over the weekend i also went to see camera obscura playing a live set. it was really enjoyable. i'm liking their new album. i played a gig with them a couple of years ago and they're nice people. it was great to see them play to such a busy and appreciative home audience:)
so, i've been listening to their album "let's get out of this country" and the new one by mojave 3. i've always enjoyed their music since i got the first album mmmmm, maybe around 7 years ago. if i stick that record on then it's the soundtrack to a lot of growing up i did then. what else have i got? oh, the flaming lips album at last and a daniel johnston album that he did in 1983 i think it was. he recorded lots of songs onto a basic 4 track recorder then put them onto cassettes and handed them around town. kind of like myspace for the 20th century and a good way to make new friends coz his songs are really good.
my kettle is calling me. i need at least three cups of english tea in the morning or i'm a zombie. or one cup of proper (not instant) coffee. if i'm in my flat in the afternoon then i usually have a small pot of japanese green tea, the one with the toasted rice in it. i absolutely love it, it's delicious and smells fantastic. meant to be pretty good for you too.
today feels fresh. the sun is feeling a little shy. i'll watch the world cup later. i'm not a fan of sports but i always do my best to watch as much of the world cup as possible. this year my team was japan, but it's looking like they'll need a miracle to beat brazil.
to the kitchen i go.
today's photo is of me observing a fat hippo who has managed to get his head stuck
good evening. i wrote a song the other day. i'd been wondering when it would happen, but finally something did happen. this one is sticking close to me and seems to pop into my head a lot so that's a good sign. when i first starting singing it i was coming out with bizarre lyrics about tangerines, pears, burst balloons and the crown of a king. i'm not sure what it all means but i'll piece it together into something resembling sense over the next few days. i think it's important to record what words come out as the song comes to me. so, i don't have writer's block now. i'm writing a bit slower than usual, but if the songs sound okay then that's fine. i had another song idea that kind of reminded me of grandaddy a bit but i'm not sure that it's any good really. speaking of grandaddy, i've been listening to their final album and i'm liking it. apart from that i'm a bit devoid of new music sadly. i need to clear my mp3 player coz it's full and put more music on it. there's a lot of albums i want to buy but i've just had to repair my computer so that's eaten my money up:( off the top of my head i'm thinking i'd like the new records by flaming lips, neal casal, vashti bunyon, camera obscura. ah, i'm falling behind:(
i think i'll go and reheat a fish finger.
