i know it's old news, but grandaddy splitting is really awful and hit home when jason lytle from the band was talking on mark radcliffe's bbc radio show tonight. it's a sad state of affairs that they cannot continue coz they cannot make a living and support their families yet james blunt, athlete and bands like that do so well in today's world. i know there's no justice in the world on every level and this just reinforces that depressing thought.
i'll try and post something happy soon:)
the new album is coming on well. i was in the studio last monday recording some vocals and i hope to get back in to do more soon. right now i'm trying to learn how to play harmonica. i borrowed one in the key of G tonight so i'm playing around with it on a song (an old song that might be on the album) called 'break free'. oh, and it's not a cover of the queen song, by the way:P
oyasumi:)
this made me smile. it's from a karaoke machine in osaka, japan. i'm not sure why anyone would want to sing this when you could be belting out some 'new york, new york' but it's cool nevertheless :)
chris and i played three acoustic songs for jim gellatly's "xposure" show on xfm scotland tonight. it'll be broadcast in may i think. i'll post more details up nearer the time. we did two songs from the album (without you, the sore feet song) and one from the next album (i think i'm bleeding). here's a photo from tonight:)
this was lying near the letterbox of my flat. i love it:)
happy weekend to you. i've been very quiet lately but i just wanted to say that the recording is going really well. last sunday we (me, alan, chris and stuart) recorded a lot of tracks in the studio with davie and at the moment i'm thinking there will maybe be 15 or so recorded. then i'll choose 10 or 12 of these for the next album. i've written another new song that i really like and i have another couple floating around that i might wanna try too, even just acoustically to see if they fly or sink. last sunday's recording was so productive, i'm very lucky to have such talented people involved. i've been invited to do a radio session for a station called xfm here in scotland so me and chris will go in there on tuesday evening to record three acoustic tracks. i'm not sure when these will be broadcast, but it'll be posted on the messageboard of course. i can't stop listening to a song called 'love and you'. go visit here
http://barbarossamusic.com/music.html and download this song. it's beautiful. i can't get it out of my head.
last week (or was it the week before? the days are melting into one) i was round at alan's flat for a drink and i had been playing my new song constantly before leaving to go to his place. i started singing it to him and he picked up his guitar and 45 minutes later we'd recorded it in his little studio. i was just making up lyrics coz at that stage i hadn't written any, but it sounds really nice i think. so, the next night back at my flat i wrote the lyrics. alan has loads of my songs on his computer now, all with awful lyrics as i made up lines on the spot. if anyone ever comes to hear these it'll be embarrasing for me:) anyway, i like these completed lyrics.
the first gig of 2006 will be on the 29th of april at glasgow uni. i'm excited about playing live again. at the gig we'll play lots of the songs we've just recorded. i can't wait.
i'll revert to being quiet again. i think it suits me best.
