i can’t sleep very well at the moment and i was just lying in bed there wondering about a lyric i recently wrote for a new song. it’s about the only lyric I’ve written in ages but I know what the song is about, so that’s okay, I can write the rest when my thoughts are a little more focussed.

anyway, the opening line is: "how many people are flying high, right now 8 miles in the sky? it’s a thought i sometimes need to get by". i was lying there, unable to switch my mind off so I got up and tried to find out the answer to this question on the ‘net but i just can’t come up with it, though my eyes are now feeling tired so that's a result. i do genuinely wonder how many people are sitting in seats, maybe sipping minatures of spirits and zipping above the earth now. i'll maybe try and find out tomorrow. if you find out, can you let me know?

i just ate one of the muffins you might have seen below. i had wine and cheese too hoping that i might get a great dream going. i think i blogged before about how i like to eat cheese before i sleep coz it brings on dreams or nightmares. it basically makes for movietime when you’re sleeping - could be a horror, could be a comedy. i recently read that different types of cheese can induce different types of dreams. in a study conducted by the british cheese board (is this an intentional pun do you think?) it was found that red leicester cheese brings on nostalgia; stilton leads to the oddest and most bizarre; and eating cheshire cheese means no dreams at all. i had a scottish mature cheddar so i've no idea what to expect. i hope it's not nostalgic though. tonight i'd like an upbeat, funny dream involving totally new characters. maybe some kind of road movie type dream or a night out in new york. maybe tomorrow evening i'll go nuts and cram my cheeks with stilton. i'll definitely be avoiding the red leicester for a while though. i wonder if a dairylee triangle has any effect?

oh well. too many questions, too few answers. good night.

i think my blogs are going to be of a pictorial nature for the next while as i'm not in the mood to talk/type. so here we go. these were taken at a recent recording session at east kilbride arts centre with top producer david scott.

this is alan, currently sporting some facial growth.

next up is james looking radiant

here's what james was looking so excited about. a scottish breakfast

finally we have me and chris

thanks to alan for those photos. i've lost track of the songs i've written that i need to write lyrics for. i've got such a backlog of songs that i must try and write them down on paper (using keywords) so they won't be lost forever. i've been recording new songs as they come to me into my mp3 player since my minidisc died. i've just not felt like writing lyrics coz times are quite hard just now and i don't wanna have all the songs feeling the same. at the recording you see above we captured 'could have been a contender' on tape and i think it's one of the best recordings i've been involved in.

finally here's another photo alan took. this was taken backstage at the musicworks showcase gig me and the guys did at a venue called the arches in glasgow last thursday. i think it kind of captures my not-quite-there mood at the moment.
