did you have a nice weekend? that question might imply that i think people read this, which i don't, but i suspect that my dad does so did you have a nice weekend dad, i've not spoken to you since last week. if anyone in japan is reading this then i hope you're safe and avoided the earthquake. japan seems to have been really unlucky recently what with the series of typhoons and now this earthquake. i had a weekend where i rotted in a big fat rut, i need to be hauled up from this rut and have a firework placed where the sun don't shine to get me going again. i'm going to get together with guitarist/flutist/cheesecake maker chris p leonard to go through a few new songs and see what sinks and what sails. i get complacent when i'm content i think. i'm a little bit too content at the moment, eating big carbohydrate meals coz it's cold, drawing the curtains coz it's getting dark outside and assuming hibernation position. it's not good. i'm sure i blogged about this around this time last year. i just worked out that i wrote my favourite new songs a couple of months ago when i was miserable. that's not good, having to be down to write. well, i'm pretty sure i have all the songs written for my next album, assuming i get to record it. but for now the focus is on picking which ones i wanna start doing live and also finalising the uk/european release of 'calling out to you'. i'm excited about that so watch this space. well not this space, but the news space.
there's a gig this friday. it's free! see the news space for more info. ta.
ola! i keep saying ola. i shouldn't really coz i've been back from barcelona for a while now, but it's quite addictive and positive sounding that little word. my little jaunt to warmer climes was really great, i hope i get the chance to return. cava and paella at lunchtime is the way to go i reckon. i was also really impressed by the transit system in the city. sure, gaudi is great, the cathedral is classy, the tapas is terrific but the metro is just so incredibly efficient. they have air conditioned carriages (bliss) and they have a clock on the platform that counts down to the train's arrival. woooo hoo you're thinking, spaceage stuff ally. but really, we never waited more than 2 minutes for one to come along and that impressed little old me.
the first time i went on a train since coming back to glasgow was the other day when i was travelling to partick from anderson (possibly the world's most gloomy, depressing, station). i'm surprised there's not a net over the tracks to catch jumping passengers. it really is so demoralising. the station is kind of half indoors/half outdoors. standing there on a dark, dank wednesday, the artifical lights piercing through your eyes and giving you a headache as the rain drips down your neck is just not pleasant. then once on board the merry train full of weary looking souls coughing and spluttering, you have possibly the most depressing voice i've ever heard announcing the imminent arrival of the next station. i swear that the woman who was employed to do these voiceovers needs some counselling. instead of announcing we're about to arrive at partick she might as well be saying we're approaching armageddon. i hear her sometimes, as i lie awake at night. from now on i'm bringing my minidisc everywhere i go.
so thursday night's gig with the primary 5 was fun. i thought they sounded fantastic, incredibly tight after just two shows together. do go and see them if they're playing in a town near you.
i was away for a while and i'm not quite back, if that makes sense so i'm technically still off the radar i think. my pc dying doesn't really help things much too. i'll be back in a little while. got an acoustic set next thursday so i need to get back in the zone. i'll be up to my old tricks soon enough i'm sure. i think. if you're in need of cheering up, go and see the movie anchorman, it's really very funny. oh, and eat tapas and drink rioja till your stomach explodes.
